Addressing Structural Racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Implicit Bias & Social Justice
Structural racism in the U.S. is not a new phenomenon. It has existed in this country for centuries; however, 2020 was undeniably a year that heightened the need for a higher level of transparency on the prevalence of structural racism. The devastating impact of COVID-19 and social injustices culminated in an increased awareness of societal inequities on access to and delivery of quality health care to communities of color.
To address these health inequities, and improve health care outcomes for vulnerable populations, we must confront the issue of structural racism.

To address these health inequities, and improve health care outcomes for vulnerable populations, we must confront the issue of structural racism.
Affecting healthcare change for vulnerable populations calls for a greater level of responsibility and stronger call for action. As the leading organization in nursing education, the National League for Nursing is called upon to galvanize nurse educator leaders, nurses, and other health care workers to not only address these critical issues, but to lead the charge in creating solutions to address them.
To meet the moment, the Taking Aim Initiative: Structural Racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Implicit Bias, and Social Justice, will enhance the preparation of nursing graduates at all levels of higher education to provide safe, equal, high-quality care to patients, families, and communities at risk.
